Meet Al

Leonard Bernstein – arguably the greatest American composer who ever lived – once observed; “It is the artists of the world, the feelers and the thinkers who will ultimately save us; who can articulate, educate, defy, insist, sing and shout the big dreams.”

It’s a philosophy that graphic storyteller Al Holt has followed all his life. Despite facing significant challenges since age 11, when he suffered from a stroke, Al has always committed himself to expressing art through words.

Al’s life was understandably turned upside down at this tender age, with his medical situation affecting his balance, fine motor coordination, vision, hearing, eating, and speaking abilities. He underwent countless surgeries, following the advice of his elementary school coach, who taught him the importance of never giving up.

Al’s attitude – living each day as if it was his last – has proven inspirational for thousands of friends and strangers alike. And though his talents as an illustrator were negatively impacted, he’s created an impressive body of work, expressing his views of the world through award-winning graphic novels, a feature film trilogy, and a series of television show scripts. He regularly collaborates with musicians, directors, and other authors, and sees his job as helping to positively affect the world.

You can also harness Al’s creative energy, either with one of his existing projects or by commissioning work from him. Getting started is as easy as introducing yourself.
