You’ve probably heard there’s a presidential election coming up in 60 days, and Donald Trump – the man already found guilty of 34 felony counts and charged with an additional 54 more in three criminal investigations – is working HARD to win. He’s finding every way imaginable to lie, cheat, and steal the election…and the only way to stop him is to make sure he gets a solid defeat at the polls on November 5th.
Why? Mr. Trump knows if he’s successful, he can make the federal charges (mishandling classified documents, conspiracy to obstruct justice, conspiracy to defraud the United States by instigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, etc.) disappear. He’ll also be able to hold off any jail time that might still be coming from state trials in New York and Georgia for illegal hush money payments, falsifying business records, racketeering, conspiracy, attempting to overturn results from the 2020 elections, etc., as well as putting him into a strong position for challenging penalties associated with his sentencing as a convicted rapist.
Trump has a long history of gaming the system, holding off a day of reckoning while continuing to work against the spirit of the law. Yet even as he does this, millions of people are screaming that SOMEONE should hold him accountable.
That’s where Jack Smith comes in. As the Justice Department’s Special Counsel who is focused on Mr. Trump, Smith has been trying to get the classified documents case (being overseen by Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon, who has been working diligently to just make this case go away) and the January 6th case before a jury.
The July Supreme Court ruling that anything remotely official when done by the president gives him a get out of jail free card gave Mr. Smith’s case something of a set-back. However, Smith has now analyzed everything Trump has done after his presidency (specifically in 2021) and determined that Trump’s not being involved in the transfer of power and holding a privately funded rally with the goal of overthrowing the election process had nothing to do with his official acts. He has therefore filed a superseding set of charges against Mr. Trump which probably has a pretty good chance of going to trial.
With an eye towards being abundantly fair, Judge Chutkan has agreed to hold off on the case until after the election. However, given endorsements from the likes of Dick Cheney for Mr. Trump’s opponent, it’s increasingly feeling like Kamala Harris will become the 47th president. And Mr. Trump already knows it, or he wouldn’t already be screaming that the election will be rigged against him.
If you need more evidence that there’s something wrong with this man – beyond his babbling, inability to focus on answering specific questions, or his constant whining that he didn’t get the opponent he wanted to run against – then you should consider moving to an island where you can control everything. Because in just 61 days, I expect we’ll be echoing the Republican’s of 2016 when we say – loudly and often – “He lost. Get over it!”
Better yet, I suggest saving yourself and rethinking MAGA policies. Realize that this new delusional party is only brainwashing people and nobody at the top – least of all Donald Trump – really cares about you.
I mean, do you really think that a supposed multi-billionaire who came from generations of wealth gives a damn about the common man? Or maybe – just maybe – you’re kidding yourself.
In just over two weeks mail-in ballots will be sent to voters in 21 states – almost half the country. It’s time to stop worrying about what names people might call you and recognize where your real interests lie. Someone may curse you for being liberal, but the real word is sane. I urge you to do what feels right for you, your family, and your children…and not to be bullied into doing what someone who only cares for himself wants.
Oh yes – you should know that my family has been strongly Republican for years. I’m ignoring all that, and recognizing that the Republican party is not where my best interests lie anymore.
I’m guessing it’s the same for you.
